It’s that time of year again! Time to choose my absolute favorite books of 2017. It’s always a difficult task, and so many amazing books came out this past year that it was hard to narrow down. There were so many stand out books–and so many more I know I haven’t been able to get to yet–so picking just five was a real challenge. But, there are always a few that stand out above the rest. My five favorites this year all feature beautiful prose, excellent storytelling, and characters that will grab you by the heart and stay with you.

So here are my top 5 books of 2017. I hope you’ll love them just as much as I did.

Rating: 5/5

What it’s about: Lazlo Strange has always been obsessed with stories, especially the myth of Weep, an ancient, technologically advanced city that disappeared long ago. It’s people–and it’s name–were lost, but Lazlo is convinced it exists and that it’s still out there. Everyone calls him a dreamer…until a group of the legendary Weep soldiers come to Lazlo’s city recruiting scientists and engineers. They aren’t looking for librarians, but when Lazlo proves himself to be the only outsider fluent in the forgotten language of Weep, he is welcomed into the fold. As the group journeys through the desert, they conjure up fantastical stories of what might’ve caused the city to disappear for so long… but the truth proves stranger, and more horrifying, than anyone but perhaps Lazlo could’ve imagined.

Top 5: Most Anticipated Books of 2016

2016 looks like it is going to be a great year for books! Here are five of this year’s new releases that I am most looking forward to.

1.Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor

Taylor and her publisher Little Brown have been a bit vague so far as to what this new book will be about since it still has some time before it’s release date, but here is what we know so far: The first book in a new duology, Strange the Dreamer will follow the story of Lazlo Strange, a librarian at the world’s greatest library. It is about, among other things, the aftermath of a war between gods and men (which the men won), a city without a name, and a girl “every bit as perilous as she is imperiled”.

I read Laini Taylor’s Daughter of Smoke and Bone series last year and  fell in love, so I absolutely cannot wait to see what she does with Strange the Dreamer. Based off the brief details we’ve been given so far it sounds like it will be every bit as magical, mythic, and original as her stories of the seraphim and chimaera.

Release date: September 27, 2016
