Top 5: Best Books of 2017

It’s that time of year again! Time to choose my absolute favorite books of 2017. It’s always a difficult task, and so many amazing books came out this past year that it was hard to narrow down. There were so many stand out books–and so many more I know I haven’t been able to get to yet–so picking just five was a real challenge. But, there are always a few that stand out above the rest. My five favorites this year all feature beautiful prose, excellent storytelling, and characters that will grab you by the heart and stay with you.

So here are my top 5 books of 2017. I hope you’ll love them just as much as I did.

Love, Simon Movie Teaser

As you may have guessed based on my previous book reviews of her books, The Upside of Unrequited and Simon Vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda, I kind of love Becky Albertalli. And Simon Vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda is being turned into a movie!

The first teaser for the film was released recently in honor of Halloween–since a pivotal scene takes place at a Halloween party–and it looks pretty freaking awesome! Check it out:

Book Review: The Upside of Unrequited

enter Book: The Upside of Unrequited

source link Author: Becky Albertalli Genre: YA / fiction

Rating: 4.5/5

What it’s about: Molly has had 26 unrequited crushes. Of course, it would be hard for them to be requited when she’s barely even spoken to any of them. Then Molly meets Will, the beautifully tousled hipster, who her twin sister Cassie thinks is perfect for her. And he seems perfect…but then why can’t Molly stop thinking about her geeky coworker, Reid? Make that 28 unrequited crushes.

Molly isn’t the only one with a crush, though. Cassie’s never had a shortage of girls around, but she might actually be falling for Mina. As Cassie grows closer to Mina and Molly’s moms plan their wedding, Molly struggles with feeling left behind. Does growing up and falling in love inevitably mean growing apart? Love is definitely in the air, but if Molly can’t even face rejection how is she ever going to find love? Maybe it’ll take putting herself out there, and facing a little heartbreak, to figure it out.

Top 5: Most Anticipated Books of 2017

A new year, a new collection of books to add to your TBR list which is really getting too long and you should probably do something about that, okay? Or is that just me? Either way there are tons of exciting new releases coming out this year. Here are five books coming out in 2017 that I am eagerly awaiting.

  1. History is All You Left Me by Adam Silvera

Griffin always expected his ex-boyfriend Theo to be his future (even if they’re broken up now, and Theo’s moved on to Jackson), but when Theo dies in a tragic drowning accident Griffin doesn’t know where to turn. He’s deep in despair, his OCD is getting worse, and to make matters even more complicated Jackson seems to be the only person to really understand his grief. No one but Griffin can save himself, though, and it will take confronting his past for Griffin to find some way to move forward.

I fell in love with Adam Silvera’s writing last year when I read his debut novel More Happy Than Not. Even though I’ve only read one of his books, he has become one of those authors (and I don’t have many) where I will pre-order anything he writes. That’s how much I loved More Happy Than Not. It was poignant, the characters were honest, and the story was equal parts touching and heartbreaking (with just a dash of near-future sci-fi, which I always love). I’m very excited to see what he’s done with this next novel, and I have high hopes that History is All You Left Me will be just as incredible.
